Description

Our Volcano Pu`u O`o lava activity is paused. There is no active lava visible anywhere on the flow field. The crater floor continues to collapse indicating no lava there. There was a swarm of earthquakes occurring away from the Pu'u O'o crater causing a crack in the earth with some lava coming out (June 18/19). It has stopped since then. There is a lot of sulfur dioxide fumes being emitted from those cracks. Looks like no lava hikes unless something else comes up. This flower is the Lehua flower from the Volcano area. Aloha and thank you for viewing

Love the color and the fuzzy spikey-ness of the bloom! Sounds like you keep very close track of the living land you are on. Stay well~

So . . . flowers now? You KNOW I'll be thrilled! :) This is a great shot. Such wonderful composition, and the DOF creates a perfect conrast for the brilliant and sharp-focused red flower. Nice job on the red, btw! That's not an easy color to capture.

I am sorry to hear that we will not be seeing any more of your great lava photos in the near term, but shots like this Lehua flower are quite enchanting as well. It sounds like the molten center is shifting again, perhaps a new crater will form in the near future?

a very nice shot of this flower. I love the bristles - good pov to show them off and I like the off-set of the subject. Sorry to hear about the hikes. I know they are important to you in many ways. Still the remaining activity must be pretty interesting as well. Hope lava starts again for you soon.

Kort...Even tho the earthquake activity had dropped to minimum which usually indicate the movement of magma below, Kilauea is still inflating. Yes, I do think a new crater will eventually be formed. Its just a matter of when. Aloha

This is one of the best shots I have seen of this flower. Glad you weren't up at the lava flow when the earthquakes were happening. Take care and Aloha.

Wow...so the eruption's finally stopped...for now? Or is it still technically considered to be erupting even without the lava at the moment? Hope it starts back up soon so we can see the amazing lava shots of yours, but you do nature just as well, so that works. :)
