Description

Here are two views of a Corsair (on display at The Museum of Flight in Seattle) for fellow aviation enthusiast Ace10. Vought designed and manufactured the Corsair for the US Navy, Royal Navy, New Zealand, and France. Other countries also flew second-hand Corsairs well into the 1960s. Besides Vought, Goodyear and Brewster also produced the excellent fighter-bomber. This model is the first made by Goodyear - hence it is an FG-1(G for Goodyear). This would be equivalent to the Vought F4U-1 (U for Vought) or the Brewster F3A-1 (A for Brewster). The US Navy kept this rather confusing system of identifying aircraft by manufacturer until 1962. During WWII the US Army Air Force also used different companies to manufacture the same aircraft, but didn't change the basic numbering or name. Example: Boeing's B-17s were also built by Douglas and Lockheed-Vega, but all were B-17 Flying Fortresses.
