Description

The U.S. Army's M3 light tank was also extensively used by British and Commonwealth armies. This specific tank was crewed by intrepid Australians involved in the slugging match for the airfields in Buna, New Guinea from Nov. 1942 to Jan. 1943. A Japanese 3 inch gun scored the clearly visible hit. Remarkably, the tank commander survived. His tank as well as gripping testimony about the battle are on display at the Museum of the Pacific War (Nimitz Museum)in Fredricksburg, Texas.
