Description

I keep seeing this house out at Lake Martin and then I went to the camera shop here in town and got a film precess and I had some shots of the house. The top one is from my digital camera. It was in around 9 AM. The bottom image is from the film 35mm camera. It was at sunset at the same time I took the sunset over the swamp. they are taken at diff pov's the top one have a tree that hides the corner of the house and I could not move to get a shot that will show the tree in a diff place so it right on the corner. I do not know who owns this house. All I know is it was in France and tooken apart brick by brick and bought here to Lake Martin in Louisiana U.S.A.

I have heard of several homes that were brought her that way - either from France, Italy or from England. Back in the early to mid 1800s it was not easy to build a home here that a wealthy person from another country was used to. Supplies were difficult to get in quantity and quality so homes were shipped over on many different ships along with all the furnishings. This is indeed a lovely home and surely one of a well-to-do person. Nice shot.

What a place to re-build the French mansion, in a swamp...nothing like France at all ! But there is always the "French Connection" ! Interesting captures Jock & ~Cheers~ :o)

Oh yes, I see Lafayette peeking out the top window in these captures, Jocko! Really interesting contrasts between the two photos; even though the top one is brighter, more revealing and colorful than the one on the bottom, it is probably due mostly to the time of day the picture was taken.

I love the top picture .. it is so green and so lush with vegetation, and still has sort of an eerie feel to it, like something out of one of Anne Rice's books that take place around New Orleans I love the second photo, it has a spooky quality to it, sitting in the shadows of the trees, darker now because of the sunset. I'm glad I don't have to choose which I like better!

There is a certain precision that pervades such a move that excludes design from the process. A way to enter an earlier era without tiptoeing. The top image has all the issues dealing with light in "plein aire" painting. It needs impresionistic painters to thrive. The bottom has the more Gothic look of painting in a studio with only "Northern Light." The second is more clearly a photograph. It objectifys more.

The photograph top breathes heat, lights, colors. The photograph of bottom breathes cold, dark half-light and colors!
