" The Declaration of Independence: A Transcription -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776. The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security..." I usually post to the Poser gallery, and this started out as a background for a render, but I think it can stand alone. The story about the John Hancock, on the of the signers of the US Declaration of Independence, signed his name big 'so King George could read it without his glasses". I think our current president should reread it himself. Thank you for your comments! I will try to catch up on mine tommorrow. We have company and we just brought home a new kitten but I wanted to get this up while it is still the 4th, at least here in Michigan. Have a great weekend!! Done by me in Photoshop.

Although it has been revised, scrutinized and interpeted in so many ways the basis of this document is still what holds true for what this country is and stands for. As for our current President well I think a certain statement Kanye West made in 2005 sums it up.

Good job on the 'unalienable', most people seem to miss that and write or say 'inalienable'. Either 'unalienable' was a unique part of Jefferson's uncommen felicity of phrase, or English idiom has chnaged since 1776. I suspect a little bit of both. As far as the politics is concerned, my views of Bush will obviously differ from yours, which is as it should be, seeing that our perspectives are different. While I have little knowledge of his domestic policies, and am thus not much impacted by them, his war on terrorism has definitely made a change here in the Middle-East. Both Muamar Ghaddafi of Lybia, and Bashir Assad of Syria are treading much more carefully than they ever would have before he haqnged Saddam Hussein. Nice sentiments, but they will never be implemented because human nature decrees that the most powerful of our species will always climb to the top of the trees to pick the best fruit for themselves and throw their dregs down on those scrmbling up to join them. Such has it been thoughout history. Hope is always there for us masses, but it never seems to bear fruit. The best we can expect is that the trickle down from the slaverings of those above us becomes more abundant. The bottom line is political and economic power is yours for the taking if you are ruthless enough to grasp it and hold on to it. Laudable sentiments such as the above declaration and notions of liberty, equality, and democracy are (sadly) tools of propaganda in the hands of those who really have power. We are part of the animal kingdom, and Survival of the Fittest applies. That said, this piece is beautifully done, and you probably found it a cathartic exercise.
