Description

AlooooooooHa! Hope everyones 4th was fun and safe, with no major burns. I played some music at a local hotel last night, and the fireworks show followed. I was pretty close to the action, so I tried my hand at shooting them close up. Mind you, I had done my homework on shooting fireworks from many tutorials over the net. I was confident that I would get some half way decent shots. Then the show began, and all hell broke loose. Suddenly all that I had read just didn't seem to work. The camera wouldn't focus, and because I was shooting in RAW, it took forever to buffer the image. Fireworks were going off out of my view, and I found myself panning up and down just firing off shots hoping to get something. People were walking in and out of the shot, and the icing on the cake....it was raining. I finally just shot in Bulb mode, without a shutter release, not the ideal situation but at least I was able to control the shutter. Man, the best laid plans, shot the hell. None the less, I was able to get some decent shots. Now I know why I don't have many firework shots in my gallery....way to stressful if you ask me. As usual, best viewed supersized. Have a great week, and hope to see some of everyones results from last night...Aloha to All!!

Hahahahaha, you make me laugh. You are supposed to be "the pro", in my book. Glad you got to capture some shots though. I took about 80 from my house. Glad it stopped raining. Out of 80, I think I got around 40 or so decent shots. Hope you had a good time, even though you had to play. Aloha my friend.

Sound like you had a bit of a panic attack...I been there done that...Everything happeneing so fast, no time for nothing just shoot like mad and hope to get some good one. I have to tell you thou, you did amazingly good!. I never saw a fireworks that clear like a 3 single shot you have here. I love the green soft color, but still sharp. And a blue is a bullseye right in a middle of the frame. Well done!

These are excellent, Dave. You must have done something right. It was so hot here yesterday that I couldn't bring myself to fight the crowds to go see the fireworks. Last year I got some really good shots on the 4th with the camera on a tripod and set to Bulb, using a remote release. Then a few weeks later at an airshow I got nothing. The were so bad I literally threw every shot away. Oh well, film is free LOL.

I actually was contemplating bringing my camera and tripod to the fireworks display this year; but opted not to. I had a heck of a time trying to shoot the moon last week in the dark (it was soo pretty and the reflection on the water was so awesome.. ), but that was a disaster. Like you, I need to do some research on it first before I attempt it. But OMG, look at these shots!!! You did perfect!!! Gorgeous captures.. I dont think they could be any better!! :)) 5*!

I hear ya bro. Fireworks photography can be a bit nutty at times. Your just blow me away, I'd love an even bigger version, heheh. Hang in there and just remember, focus set to infinity, high Fstop, 1-3 second shutter speed and a tripod, and you should be okay. You could even try shooting in (gasp) JPEG mode! But from the looks of these, you don't need any tips from me. Colorful perfection!

I love what you captured. colors are brilliant and the silhouetts of the palm trees really make the shots.
