Description

Picking Blackberries is a tradition for those who love blackberry pie or cobbler hot with ice cream atop it all! Best wear gloves with the finger tips cut off to pick and avoid the thorns. Also, use insect repellent to avoid "chigger", redbugs, what you might call those pests who itch you for days. These wild blackberries are in a large wild patch on the farm of my now deceased father-in-law. We went pick'n about 7am to avoid the heat of the sun. Delicious! Not familiar with blackberries? Ah, on the northern California coast in the month of September, the blackberries are fully ripe and so heavy the vines bend with the weight. I usually try to get there with my 5 gallon bucket and I fill it to the top in an hour or so. Of course, I have help from the grandkids. The cobblers, pies and jelly I make is the "best in the west." Wonderful shot with a mavelous feel to it.

Dang it, Tom, send me a quart! I have blackberries, apples, pears and even a peach tree but I never get any of 'em! Those critters running and flyin' around here eat 'em before they're even ripe! btw, Neat photo of the berry picker, kinda looks like there was an early morning mist.

Blackberries are considered weeds around here! They're everywhere - Seattle is just covered in brambles! People dig them out, burn them, try every way in the world to get rid of the darned things. Don't worry - there's still plenty for pie! But when I say "everywhere," you can believe it! I've got a sprig coming up in my lawn, even as we speak. They're growing down in the bog next to the creek. In the woods. On hills. Next to the road. Yikes!

You made me hungry. It's been years since I had a home-made pie. Great shot!

Mmmmm, I love blackberries. They're as much a weed here as Tara says about Seattle, but I still pick my share. They'll be ripe in a week or two.

A lovely dreamy and peacefilled image, Tom. We have many blackberries growing in all hedgerows here. No one ever digs them out. They are part of our wild countryside. Picking and baking pies is a gentle pleaseure. A wonderful capture. God Bless and hugs. Diane.
