Description

Hey guys. Another shot from the beach where I took my last pic : thumb_1475854.jpg"'See You Soon' - For Kai ( short_ribs )" I am calling this pic, ' The Swell Season', because I saw a movie last week, called 'Once', that featured most of the music from that CD, ( by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova ), and I am loving it sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much I wanted an excuse to tell you about it, lol. So, if you want to hear a really great song, go to : http://www.myspace.com/theswellseason ...and listen to 'Falling Slowly'. I think it's absolutely brilliant. Incidently, 'Once' is a tiny movie that won a major award at this year's Sundance film festival. It stars the two musicians you will hear on that page. All the music from 'Once' is excellent. If you like U2, David Gray, Billy Corgan etc. you will probably love this as much as I do.... Okay, I'll stop acting like I'm Glen Hansard's mom now, lol.... Oh, one more thing...I'm not allowing any comments because I can't comment myself... My internet is beyond %$#@*&^ awful and it takes sometimes fifteen minutes to load a single page here. I can be patient, but not THAT patient. Anyway, hope that situation will be rectified soon or I am going to kill myself, lol. K that's it for now. I'm done chewing your collective ears off. Hope y'all are having a splendid day/ night / week etc. and thanks for dropping in and taking a peek. Seeyazzzzzzzzz! -Marlene :^) OOOH My internet's working! So I'm gonna run to comment as fast as I can for as long as I can....Hence the switch to allowing comments, lol. Nevermind...;^P

Cracking shot Marlene. The way the Island lines up with the foreground rocks is a brilliant idea, well done. Regards Anthony

Excellent POV and deep colors in this beach capture, Marlene! I can smell the salt swell from here. As an old golden oldies era guy, I can state that I have never listened to your fav musicians listed above. I don't listen to any of that stuff, unless it's by accident. Give me Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters any day.

Nice shot Marlene. I like the way you have seen the repeating pattern in the rocks and island. The scene was a little too high contrast to capture which has led to some loss in shadows but I don't think this detracts from the image overall. A polarising filter may have reduced the contrast a little and enabled you to capture more shadow detail. There is one thing that does seem a little strange though and it is the colours. Difficult because I don't know the landscape or rocks so I have no idea about those, the mid grey point seems to be on the foreground rock which makes the sky and clouds very cool blue. I tried moving the mid grey point to the clouds and then it looks as though the rocks are on fire and the sea turns a nasty amber :( however the sky looks really nice - maybe it is one where it would be a good case for do this with masking the land on the adjustment layer ? I like the compo, looks like you had a great time at the beach with your camera and got some super shots while there :)

Superb shot Marlene, I wish I was wandering on this rocky, rugged beach... Now :-)) Will look for the movie and the music. I love David Gray's singing. So glad we can comment. Diane

Richard, all I did was add a layer at multiply because I felt it was a bit too washed out. The colors in this are actually very close to what it looks like there...But thank you,as always, for your insight. :^)

I'm loving the beach shots girl...you know it's my thang! So many nice tones in this image. I miss this type of shoreline as we have virtually nothing like this in the islands. Just lava outcroppings for a shoreling or plain sand beach. Very kewl POV on this one also, makes for fine eye candy, yummy! Thanks for sharing this little beauty....Aloha~

Very nice ocean and beach shot, everything is very sharp and the colors are vivid. It would be interesting to see this same shot taken at dawn or dusk when the lighting is softer and more ambient for comparison, just a thought- but I really like the clouds and sky in this shot- you can see the gradation of color from the horizon haze to the top.

The photograph and typography have all the ear mark of a calendar design. Any thoughts here and a possible series of the beach or other beaches? Just a thought. Thank you for sharing. egmont

Damn Marlene, this is stunning, it really brings out the beachcomber in me, particularly the rockhound part, I see my favorite rock already!! I love the clouds and the vibrant colors!!! Also, I must say a big THANKS, for turning me onto the movie & the music, I can't tell you how many times I've listened to those 4 songs over & over, it's the type of music I love too!!!! I can't wait to see the film!!! Thanks so much for sharing this!!!! I hope it's cooler over there than here, we're in a heat wave... I'm with egmont, more beach scenes please????

I second Richard though I do like the colors. I have to say for me it is a little too dark in the shadows and low midrange. Perhaps it is a monitor thing. When you multiplied the layer, did you go back and adjust the opacity of the M layer until it looked right? I personally would have gone with a little more opacity. All that said, it is a really captivating image, well done!

I really like this rocky beach and the dark inky water. There is mystery in the depths of the dark shadows. Nicely done Marlene.
