Description

AloooooooooHa! It's humpday baby! A couple more days till some kickback time. I was commenting on an image by Akemi the other day, and was so envious of the killer flowers she shares with us all from her lovely garden. I wished I had so many varieties in one garden. I went outside to see what I had in my yard. I found that I was really a weed farmer and not a flower grower. My yard is sad for flowers. Yeah I know, I live in Hawaii and should have this huge arboretum growing in the back yard....but Nooooooooooo.....just every variety of crappy weed on this earth! I know.....I should be beaten. But I do have this palm tree that I really like. I planted it from a baby and now it's a teen...I'm so proud. This is one palm tree and I'm shooting through the branches in the evening. I'm trying out a HDR/tonal mapping program and this is a result...I'm not sure I'm totally sold yet...but I need more time to play. I send this one out to Akemi-san, for her garden is surely a treasure of earthly delights. If you haven't seen her gallery your missing some extraordinary images. Check it out "here" Many thanks for stopping in, and the many comments left on my previous images...Much Aloha to all~

Nice to see you're making the best of the flower-less yard. Actually, I like this even more because it's not just another flower picture. Think I'll do some exploring myself. Cool patterns and tones!

Awwwwwwwwwwww Dave you are so sweet!!!!!! Thank you so much, yes I do have some flowers & sunsets, but you have the waves!!!!! And this cool palm tree you've grown since babyhood!!!! I love all the different lines in this shot, I now see how they got the idea for window blinds, I'm sure it came from palm trees!!!! I don't know anything about the HDR/tonal mapping program so I can't tell what it's done to this image? I still have a lot to learn. I do know how to recognize a powerful image though & this one is just that!!!! Mahalo & Aloha, my friend...

Well, Dave, I think everyone would agree that you take excellent photos of your crappy weeds. :-)

LMAO! Your notes cracked me up. You are too funny, Dave. And yes, I agree wholeheartedly, Akemi shares such beautiful images with us, from her garden. Even her 'weeds' are beautiful, lol. I think it's wonderful that you did this dedi for her. She's such a very special person and for the record, I think you are, too. No small wonder to me that you two are friends.... :^) Oh and your image...I almost forgot about that, lol...it's wonderful. I love the converging lines and the way you composed this. My favorite part is the beige part on the bottom left. Beautiful work, Dave...and a beautiful dedi to a beautiful person...Mucho mahalos to you both. -M :^)

Wonderful interplay of lines and light! We should be beaten if our yard is full of weeds? LMAO I should be running for the hills then! A friend brought his commercial-sized front-end-loader with massive bush-hog over on Monday and spent a couple of hours cutting the pasture and some areas of the yard that had gotten away from me (including 8ft briars surrounding my chickenhouse I hadn't been able to get to for years!). He also pushed a tree off of the barn and into the woods as well as several other dead trees... I haven't seen your yard but I'd say it is probably ok! =) Your palm looks happy and healthy and in a good growing environment! Great portrait of him/her~

Good one - love shots like this. There's a downside to HDT/Tonemapping and that's a loss of contrasts, and - depending on the settings, color as well. These two ingredients are somewhat a miss in the image, to make it pop. Other than that it is great!
