Description

Captured in the shadows, 7/12/07, about a mile from home. I'm brain blanked this morning, and don't feel much like doing research, so is anyone out there (auntietk, MrsLubner?) willing to venture a guess as to the identity of this esoteric flower? The petals are pretty, but that is one weird pistil jutting out toward the heavens. I won't include here what those little yellow thingies on top remind me of. Have a nice day!

Never in all my born days have I seen such a thing! The petals look like some sort of daisy, but that center appears to have been created by committee. Without the surrounding context, I wouldn't even hazard a guess. (Leaves, flower size, height, are all helpful pieces of information to have when identifying flora.) I sure home PJ knows, 'cause I got nothin'!

Its a zinnia. I have some in my garden and they go through several stages. They are very long lasting and very colorful. Easy to grow and fun to cut for the table. You did a great job of catching this one. You have presented the "crown" very nicely with good light and a fine pov. Nice shot!

Thank you, MrsLubner, for the identification and compliment. I have more captures taken in the same plot of zinnias similar to this one, and also of varieties that are radically different, but of still the same species.

Definitely an odd looking flower but it has me fascinated non the less. An excellent POV and the composition is great. Beautifully captured and thanks also to MrsLubner for her continued expertise in such matters. xx
