Description

This wasn't actually shot by me (obviously) but rather shot of me by a portrait artist at the Silverleaf Renaissance Festival. This is the costume I made this year, and even though I've already posted one picture of it, she did such a nice job I couldn't resist posting this one, as well. The armor is entirely of my own design and creation. It's all hand-made of leather which I cut, stamped, and dyed before using a wax-hardening process to make it strong enough to stop a sword. (Yes, they really did use hardened leather as armor, and it really will stop a sword - I tested a piece a couple of years ago.) The helmet is also hardened leather with a horsetail plume. The other, lighter hair is my own ;) Thanks for taking a look. I promise I'll get back to my Mars Mystery and the Space War stories soon!

Great work on the costume. :) It has been a very, very long time since I was at a Renaissance Faire. And unfortunately they don't have them where I live now. :( Oh well. :)

Fearsome warrior you are! So... you would have been ye olde armoror too! Wonderful portrait of your artistically creative and functional costume~ =) My ancestor, Ethelwulf (Ethelwulf became king of the West Saxons in England when his father, Egbert, died in 839. In 851, he became the first ruler in all western Europe to defeat a viking army in a major battle) would have liked your moxey as would his 4 times great grandfather, Cenred, also a warrior-king of legends.

Amazing craftmanship to be able to make such a fine laether armor set! Just remind me to stay in your good graces, as I have no such armor... Excellent showcase photo too! I have been to a few Renaissance festivals and never failed to have lots of fun, if only as a spectator. Must be even better to really live an dplay the part! 5+++

Great workmanship. When it comes to dodging sword blows, I'd take my chances with my feet working furiously in the other direction though, lol.

Amazing work, respect, man! About a year ago I was fighting with the design and fabrication of my saddle bag, so I can guess how much work this was. Again, respect, man!

Nice job on the armor! Your craftsmanship is excellent! How long did it take to make that? I was thinking of making leather brigandine a few years back, but alas time and stuff got in the way.

Amazing, detailed costume work! I had wondered about leather armor when I heard mention of it before, but never understood that it was hardened like that.Probably a lot lighter than regular armor?

....holy BLEEEEEEEEP Now this is gorgeous work, honestly. You really don't see that kind of dedication and craftsmanship anymore, on anything really. You must be very proud of it. Super job, it looks great!

That is some bad-ass leather armor. You might consider cropping out the backdrop and building a suitable fantasy background. That'd really rock!

Excellent work on the costume, I see you are talented not just in the digital world. Glad the sword test worked. Tony :-)
