Description
This is the Trotternish Ridge, a massive landslide that happened some 60 million years ago after a volcanic basalt lava flow grew to heavy for the underlying rock and the whole thing collapsed sliding down to the east. It is an area of unique scenery with twisted rock formations and pinnacles of jagged rock. Please click on the image to see a larger view.
I included the motor-home to give some sense scale. What a joy to drive on roads like this for anyone who is used to sitting in almost stationary urban traffic most days.
Thanks for looking and any comments you leave
Richard.

I love the sharpness and the colors of this shot, really great postwork.

I couldn't agree more. I loved driving in the highlands!!! Probably one of the peak experiences of my life, no pun intended. Gorgeous shot, Richard and great idea to include the motor home for scale. -M :^) ( He's lucky I wasn't driving behind him. I was an absolute vehicular terrorist on those roads, passing everybody and tailgating, lol, like a true New Yorker... ;^) )

Beautiful photo. I am guessing there is some postwork? But ir there is it's been done so well that I can't see it!

fantastic image!!! Roby ;O)

Beautiful capture, and agree that the vehicle is essential. Its placement is perfect, too. But the halo along the ridgeline looks to me like a sharpening filter at work, and it detracts from an otherwise idyllic, natural scene. You know, you can select just the ridgeline, expand it to a few pixels' width, and invert the selection before sharpening, so that you can sharpen everything except the ridge. Just a thought.

A superb capture, Richard. When we look across the land, the sacle of thing here... It makes us realise just how tiny we are. Magnificent mood in this splendid work too. Hugs. Diane.

Incredible mate! I'm amazed how the landscape it self seems to be so textured it's awesome.. Good job on the postwork too!

That IS wild terrain and really must be a joy to drive on. Very few hills here on this big sandbar I call home. A goregous, passionate photo, but the sharp edges of the hill are a slight distraction.

Looks like i am not the only fan of wild weather. Love the combination of the grey sky and green vegetation in this ancient landscape. Would have been perfect if only the campervan had been a vw :-)

Ahhh the Quirrang from the link road to Uig? If you visit Skye this is not to be missed. I remember the feeling of "discovering something" for the first time when we first drove up this way. It is a magical area to walk in too with some really weird pinnacles and cliffs to explore, all the while looking back to hills of Torridon on the mainland....thats it, I'm away to wax my boots now!

Incredible photo- the contrast between sky and green is stunning- so is the immaculate clarity throughout. The driver in me would absolutely love flying around those corners with no traffic!

Superb capture!

wow....what an impressive view this is...

everything about this image is brilliant, from the way u compose this image to the way the road comes in & then out, & sharpness of the image. & for some reason, that motor-home just completes it.

a great tribute to this great place...love it all

Great shot.

Awesome shot Richard. One of my favourite parts of the world.

Really lush green. The low clouds add this great sense of mood and feeling. I think the inclusion of the camper van was good too, apart from a sense of scale it adds life to what could be a dull scene otherwise.

Fantastic landscape.... such marvelous light and colors!
MaydaMason
so beautiful! and that car adds the sense of scale.... this landscape is colossal!
