Description

Saturday's Cooper Spur hike was so much better than our attempt the week before. The weather was perfect, and we made it all the way up, as far as hikers are allowed to go without climbing gear. In this picture of Mt. Hood, our destination is way over on the left. Start where the trees and the gray rock meet, then move up the slope to the right, then across the saddle to the right. At that point there's a black dot where the slope changes abruptly and the color of the rock is much lighter. That black dot is our destination, at about 8800 ft (2680 m) It doesn't look that high, but the photo was taken from around 6000 ft (1800 m), which is treeline at this lattitude. This really isn't a very difficult hike in good weather; you just take your time and chug your way up the switchbacks with lots of stops for picture-taking. :-) More to come...

What a beautiful picture of Mt. Hood, and what a difference from last week to this week as far as the weather is concerned. I'm glad the weather cooperated this time so that you can show everyone how beautiful this area is.

Yay! Look at that glorious, clear sky! I bet you had a great time. Your photos over the next few days should be awesome! I can't wait. Bring 'em on! Thanks for this wonderful shot, giving us a reference point for the hike. Very thoughtful, not to mention the photo itself is very cool!

I think you're becoming the JCV2 of the northwest!!!!!! If anyone doesn't know Jan-Carel do a artist search, JCV2... Anyway, I thought my hike up to the wild horses was grueling and it was very dry & slippery rocks, but this makes it look like a walk out to the mailbox!!!! I too admire your stamina!!!!! As I said before you must be part elk, they're known for their stamina!!!!!!! Gorgeous image Dennis!!!!!!!

Very impressive boulder crop! They grow pretty big out there :) A lovely view of the mountain. Why does your destination point turn black from the gray all around? Is it just a shadow or is it an inclusion of some kind?

Did you bring some of that cool, crisp air back down to us poor folks sweltering in the summer heat? ;o) Stunning view and excellent capture.

That sure doesn't look like an easy everyday hike. It looks very challenging. Hat off to you my friend and I agree with Akemi regarding you becoming a Jan-Carel. He would hike to the mountains and glaciers. He uses that dot system....but his is a red dot, lol. Excellent job. Aloha
