Description

Because of the rainy weather we've had recently, the atmosphere is much cleaner than I expected it to be at this time of year. But that allowed us to see farther than usual. In this shot are three of Washington State's highest peaks. From the left we see Mt. St. Helens at 8,365 ft (2,550 m), then Mt. Rainier at 14,410 ft (4,392 m) and Mt. Adams at 12,276 ft (3,742 m). The distance to St. Helens and Adams is about 65 miles (105 km) and to Rainier it's about 115 miles (185 km). In the near-to-middle distance, there's a darker line of hills, with a bump that's almost at the center of this picture. That bump is Mt. Defiance, which I hiked two weeks ago. Since I uploaded a shot of Mt Hood from Mt Defiance, I wanted to be sure to get a shot of Defiance from Hood. :-) The bare gray dirt is the lateral moraines of Eliot Glacier, of which I have some good shots, too. Stay tuned...

Wow! This is a magnificent view! I really need to get away from the flat areas of the beach for a while... Your POV and capture is absolutely perfect. I'm in awe.

What a great view you experienced. One can see clearly what the first white explorers must have felt when they stood at a similar spot and saw what you did. Thank you for sharing. egmont

Moraines! I was wondering what those bare dirt mounds were, lol. This is stunning. It looks like there is a 'cloud sea' just beyond Mt. Defiance. It's great that the highest peaks were well lit, they look magnificent.

Yeah, JCV2 of the great Northwest!!!!!!!!!! Amazing capture, I love how the weather was just perfect for you to see all three mountain tops!!!! You can see how Mt St Helens is so flat on top, ready to blow again??!!! This is part of the "ring of fire" right?? We're surrounded by a string of volcanos! Superb image Dennis!!!!
