Description
Ft. Morgan (Gulf Shores, Alabama) looking from Battery Duportail to the original inner wall. The fort is built in the shape of a 5 pointed star with inner and outer defenses (this beautiful shape is typical of installations built in the early years of the US). The inner walls are a wonderful series of arch upon arch upon arch... There are arches within the interior construction creating great vault-like spaces that housed artillery, men, supplies, horses... These old forts are really interesting to see on google earth, this one is easy to find being on a spit of land between the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay.
