Description

Another of my little experiments... Ok, I trapped 'Fred' in a glass and put a bit of plastic underneath it. I wanted to photograph a spider up close but they wouldn't stay still long enough. So originally I was going to snap him in the glass, but I got too much reflection... So, decided I'd have to let him die in there... Poor bugger took just over two weeks... For all spider lovers out there, I'd like to assure you that Fred was the only spider to suffer in the name of my art. I also talked to him daily and asked him to hurry up. Fred is about the size of a 5p piece. Thanks for all views and comments, I appreciate them all. Tracey

Oh! How could you? poor Fred. I did the same with the first Lily beetle, but that was kept in a proper petrie dish. I found out that they lost the wax like sheen when dead so after that I put a couple in the freezer. I like you're style, "Hurry up and die so I can take your picture", you have upset two Freds on here, why didn't you call him Harry or Horrace. #;0) ROFLMAO. My sides hurt.

if a spider is inside of my house, it is just as good as dead.outside I will let them be as long as they do not try to build webs covering my door.harry(hairy) would have been better

Two weeks to die? With nowhere to go but the inside of that glass, did he die of starvation or boredom? ;o) Regardless, the resulting art means he did not die in vain. 5* for following through to the bitter end! BTW, did you at least notify his next-of-kin?

That's kinda cruel Tracey!! I hope you put the TV on so he didn't get bored in his two weeks on death row! lol. Excellent results though, all in the name of art!!

Awesome capture. Two weeks, that's dedication. Next time, just place in the freezer and then thaw out afterwards. Only takes about an hour.

Ummm, if you are patient you can find a spider that will be still long enough to shoot. Starvation in any living creature is a pretty rough way to go. And really, all you got in the end was a photo of a dead spider. Live ones look so much better. :-)

Oh I feel so sorry for him now and I don't particularly like spiders... well I don't really dislike them, I'm just really scared of them, but I don't think I could do that to him - he'd have met his fate under a boot I'm afraid - probably wouldn't make as good a photograph though LOL! A great macro despite the efforts to get it. xx

I'm with MrsLubner on this one. In fact, the picture you got of the dead spider, is not even a very good photo of a dead spider. Sorry if this sounds a bit critical but I can see nothing in this post that comes close to justifying your action. I have no doubt that you are a very nice person and I am not condemning you to h*ll by any means, lol; but hopefully in the future, you will think longer and harder about how you treat even the smallest sparks of life.
