Description

This is the Bolts down Bay. I have an older shot in my gallery. I revisited this place to get what I consider a better shot. I thank you all so much for encouraging me to post more in this series. I will give you a little history of this tiny houses and narrow alleyways in Bay. In the 18th century Robin Hood's Bay was considered the busiest smuggling community on the North Yorkshire Coast. It was said that a bale of silk or a keg of brandy could pass from the bottom of the village to the top of the village without leaving the houses. A series of cellars, hiding places and bolt holes we used to pass contraband goods from house to house. Fisherfolk, farmers, the clergy and the gentry were all involed in the smuggling!! Today, sadly most of these beautiful houses are holiday cottages. Thank you for reading and looking. Hugs. Diane.

Oh Di... this is a super POV you have here enabling the full beauty of the cobbled pathway to be viewed. The colours and textures are brilliant and you have most definitely got yourself a "better shot" here (not that I've seen your first LOL!!) This is amazing and should be hung on a gallery wall somewhere! Hugs my dear friend. xx

This is absolutely charming Diane! You have certainly captured The Bolts beautifully. I have heard of the smuggling which went on in Robin Hood's Bay. You would never believe it to look at it, would you? It is a truly gorgeous place and you are so lucky to live there. Have a peaceful evening, my friend. Hugs and love to you and yours. Eileen (and a big hug from Ian) xxx

I adore the well-wore stone steps and the patched and replaced cobblestones at the bottom. I love the story about the town. It helps that the name is Robin Hood's Bay since I have always had a crush on him. :-) Anyway, I don't know about it being a shame that the old houses are now occupied as holiday cottages. To me that says that they are being cared for and live on rather than being nothing more than something to look at. But that's me. I've always felt the way to keep the past in the present was to drag it along with you. LOL

I love this... Those rocky path is beautiful.. And the flowers along the breezeway are beautiful as well.. The breezeway with it shadows is awesome as well.... I can believe that the clergy was in on the smuggling in those days... After all not many wealthy people could give bookhoos to the church...so preach then go smuggle..grin It's nice someone has these for a home but I think they should have been preserved for historical value too....hopefully they do allow people in to see the place...I would... Love this and definitely a fav with me.... Thanks for commmenting on mine as well today sweet sis.. I have a terrible headache:( Hugs Susan~
