Description

This isn't an animal, but it could be *L* This monster moth paid us a visit while we were celebrating my son's 30th birthday party. It wouldn't get off the edge of a chair and when it finally did it sounded like a helicopter taking off. The wingspan was over 4". I've lived here a LONG time and have never seen a moth this size. He (or she) was SO furry! It must be from the Artic LOL .... I was trying not to crop it from the original photo but I was afraid renderosity would not let me upload it.

I've seen large moth before but never this kind and color. This is so amazing. My mother would aways say that a friendly visit from someone of the past had come. Excellent capture. Aloha

Beautiful (and BIG) moth! I believe it is a member of the Drepanidae family (or "Hooked Tipped" moths). I took a picture of a similar moth on a camping trip in Missouri a couple of years ago. I don't know if I can post it here, but if it works, you can see my moth at this link... http://jubchuqun.com/album-camping_may2005/images/Memorial%20Day%20Camping%20Trip%20-%2005-27-2005%20-%2066.jpg They look closely related, but mine looks more like it as big eyes while yours looks like leaves I think. Oh ... and there are only three kingdoms of life. Animals, plants and fungi. Insects and lepidopterae fall under the animal kingdom. So this IS actually an "animal" ... scientifically speaking. Li
