Description
I'm going to dislike seeing how big the bees are next year. This is not a quality photo just an odd ball (I fudged around with the screen - it was DUSTY). It flew in while I was doing the dishes, and landed on the screen. I left it alone after taking this photo. The next morning it was still there ..but it was very dead . *sigh* I have not idea why it died.(prolly the massive amount of dust on that screen lol) It had a 6" wingspan and a very pale green wings and body. Not pretty, just different *L*
*edited* Thank you for identifying this for me. I did some research on the Lunar Moth and they do get huge. The ones I saw online were much brighter green then the one who visited me. I'm thinking he must have been sick *sigh* Poor fella!

Its a Lunar Moth and I haven't seen one in many, many years. I used to look for them when I was younge because they were huge...I think they are the biggest or one of the biggest moths. This is a wonderful shot.

Yes...a luna moth....aren't they lovely? :)

Right...LUNA, like the moon. Most are solid pale green and really lovely, then there are the white ones called ghost luna; this seems to be a cross between the two. Good capture...it likely died because that is what they do this time of year! Alas, their life cycle has ended!

My friend Ann would be green with envy that you had this visitor! Many of the flowers in her garden are planted with this creature in mind. Great shot!

I have never seen a living or dead Lunar Moth as they are only on the east coast and I am here in California. Having collected insects for a number of years and at times I still do, though now I do rather enjoy seeing them alive in my garden, I have always desired a Lunar Moth, as it is alarger that the two other species of moth that come close to it. It certainly must have been an interesting experience for you. Thank you for sharing. egmont

I've never seen a Luna moth, except in pictures. Beautiful little critters. Sad it had to die there on your screen, but little could it comprehend how we humans would capture its image and in some small way immortalize this one insect around the world. Its kind of awesome when you think of it that way... Li
