Description
USS Pittsburgh returning down the Yazoo River after a raid on Confederate positions around Yazoo City. It is slow going as the river winds and is fairly narrow in many places with numerous obstacles. The Confederates would post patrols along the rivers and conduct hit and run attacks. Hence the officer to guide the ship and the rifle men on the bow as well as the cannons manned.
This type of operation was repeated in Vietnam.
The Ironclad was done by me in Wings and represents a Cairo Class Gunboat built by Eads. The boats were laid down in 1861 completed in January 1862 and originally manned by the army! The boats all served on the Missippi River. Five of the seven built survived the war and served in most of the campaigns on the Missippi.

I always wondered why they changed the name of Army-Navy Drive (in 1971) in front of IDA in Arlingon, VA to Eads Drive or was I just lost wehn I returned in 1983?
