Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

Nice find. But, I am sure they carved their initials in the tree when it was much smaller. Don't you think? Looks like a really great place to hike. Good going Errol. Aloha

The groove in the path is really shown well here. Too bad about the carvings in the tree. Great shot...and what is it that the hikers hear?

Pity about all the initials. I get the desire to show you were there, but doing so on such a majestic tree seems a bit off. Great shot, looks like a fantastic hike. :)

PJ...At first, I thought I heard voices and no one would believe me. Then they heard it and stared in the forest for a while. Could hear a dog barking probably sounds from Waipio Valley below. Also like a hammer on wood...probably the bending and stretching of the trees. Some loud bird noise and grunting of wild life....Pigs. Thanks for asking.... Aloha....Errol

Wow that is some shot, and some tree.

Eerie to hear the voices of the forest, Errol. I could no more leave a mark on a tree than fly to the moon!! I have a deep respect for nature.. I cannot see the point in doing this ever. A wonderful shot of the forest, Brave Terry and Carrie. Aloha to all three dears. Diane.

It seems the more humid the air, the further sounds carry...the neighbors on the hill behind me are about 900ft + away (through deep woods...) but sometimes we hear them talking in their backyad as clear as if they were in mine. Great shot, love the scale, so grand~ =)

i can see how noise from the forest would scare one a bit....wonderful capture

Terry and Carrie hear low voices from the forest gods saying, "please don't cut us up any more, it really smarts." Wonderful POV, DOF and mood lighting in this neat photo, Shark!

ah well be careful ....it might be a caveman or a 25' bear judging by the size of those trees LOL ............. Great photo and ty once again for taking us with you on these wonderful travels!

Wild pigs???? Didn't they film the TV series LOST on your island???? Those people were always having strange encounters in the forest!!! I also think it's terrible to carve your name in a living tree. Just imagine a small spider climbing your leg to put his name on you??? I guess as much as we try, we can never tame man, he remains a savage! LOL!!!!!! I'm glad you had a fun hike with your friends Errol, Can't wait for more photos??? Hope you had a great weekend!! ;-) Aloha...

What a sad thing for people to do, but the tree is just as majestic.

Excellent shot!

makes one wonder if they brought a ladder.excellent quality capture

It's a shame they had to cut their graffiti in all the trees like that, but it is interesting reading who was there. One of the place I go to here called Elephant Rocks had a bunch of the quarry workers carve their initials/names back in the 19th century. If you think climbing a tree is hard to carve your name, try granite!
babuci
Interesting forest. One side a huge tree oposite a thin trees standing. Great colors too.

very nice image:)

An excellent shot Errol, shame that some people think it necessary to carve their names into these magnificent trees. Voices coming from the forest? - sounds like something out of the TV show Lost. Fantastic work my friend!
