Description

I made this terrain in World Machine, made sky and rendered in Terragen thanks for viewing and any comments.I know that many artists are experts at using other programs to create terrains for Terragen. I am no way comparing my work with theirs.I still only use what I have done from scratch, not borrowing other's terrains. I have fun working in Terragen and posted this in that spirit I am having trouble with creating realistic terrain colors.any suggestions? I can do it in psp but want to translate the color from world machine

Very majestic looking, the sky is unbelievably pretty and I love the colors. The mountains in the background are very real lokking. As usual this is very good.

I love the colour it gives me an Egyptian feel towards it. That water looks very inviting especially with those steps leading down to it.

If you want realistic terrain colors, just add a few layers with differents shades of colors and play with all the settings (bumpiness, fuziness, coverage...) You can also give layers some altitude and slope constraints... it's not so difficult. You will find a very useful tutorial here : http://www.martin-brunker.de/tutorials/eng_surface_tutorial2.pdf Good luck !

I'm not into rendering at all Richard so can't help on that score but I can appreciate the work that goes into this sort of thing. As far as it goes I like it, looks pretty realistic to me I think it could look better, like you say the colours of the mountains. Maybe a little snow on the tops? It looks like a pretty desolate place to me, like a scifi movie on mars the red planet.

Excellent view, Richard! About 'realistic terrain colors'... You can do that creating the surface with TG! Look into some srf file made by others to see how they made them!

Wish I knew something about Terragen that might help with what you seek, Richard...but, afraid I'm clueless. I look at this, in the larger view particularly, and think I see what you're seeking to attain with it. Still, I like the slight vagueness of it. It's evocative that way :)
