Hello! My name is Jodie. I live in Minnesota where the temps can fluxuate by 20 degrees in one day. Most of my photos have been taken very close to my home, a 10 acre hobby farm., where I raise Alpacas and chickens. I am a band director, a musician/singer and a photographer/adviser on the yearbook committee. My camera of choice is a Nikon. I have a D90 and a D70. I also have a SB800 flash and favorite lens is Nikon 18-200mm AF-S, with VR. Revisiting the visual arts is something I should have done years ago. If I see something remarkable, I just try to capture it. Nobody else will ever see it quite that way again so I hope you try that, too. This is just like expensive therapy for us.  Thank you for visiting and may you have a peaceful day!Â

Beautiful shot and what a wonderful adventure! This looks like some of the old homesteads in my area, I always stop to look at them. Wonderful capture! :)

Actually, I while two shots might work better, I think you can actually "blend one" :o) You probably know this, but possible some of those reading this won't so... What I do is make two copies of one digital picture, and then boost the contrast of one toward the light end of things (bringing out features in the shadows or one the ground), and boost the other toward the dark range (bringing out features in light areas such as the sky). Then I use some masking and/or a transparency gradient to combine the two. I've found that often digital shots will contain enough "contrast" to bring out details that don't appear to be there when the picture is adjusted overall to look right to the eye. For example in this shot, you probably could bring out a lot more features in the sky if the contrast were pushed into the darker ranges (though this would cause loss of features on the ground). Frankly, all this work wouldn't be worth doing with this picture because it looks good as is. But occasionally a shot facing into the sun (say a sunrise or sunset) can be worth the effort because it yields a wealth of added detail. Sorry to have written a book here. Thanks for sharing these interesting photos.

In the thumbnail form, the image looks more like a painting than a photograph, so when I look at it large I of course see it is not a painting but a good photograph with very good composition. duncanlong give an intersting senario as to technique and all I would add is that I would have adjusted the curves a little more to reflect a touch more contrast. But then again, these are artistic differences. Thank you for sharing. egmont

Nice mood effects in this lovely pastoral shot here, Jodie. Unfortunately, unless you used the lowest setting possible, I see no evidence of Photoshop film grain.

It really has an old west feel. Would like to see it maybe in B&W or sepia. Love the subdued colors. Wonderful capture.

It does look very authentic and is a splendid capture of the scenery. If you feel like experimenting with digital effects, go for it, I am looking forward to see you spread your wings in this terrain. Excellent capture.

I like the feel you gave this. I think the grain works perfectly. Beautifully composed, and has a very artistic feel to it. Well done, Jodie. This almost reminds me of something Andreas did awhile back, with a tilted cabin...and that's a compliment if there ever was one. -M :^)

the grain is added subtly, it hardly speaks; it's more like a whisper...the outstanding thing about this shot (I saw it a while back) is the solitary stature of the cabin, all boarded up and sitting there all alone. But you caught it in midground, so its abandonment is modified by the beauty of its surroundings; and really, it could just as well have posed for you there, because its placement is nigh-perfect. Translate: You caught it in just the right place. Its colors match the reds of the trees (rust reds), so you have a quiet 'blaze' in the center of the shot. You pick up the hues in the frame too...Quiet, peaceful, abandoned & gentle. I think it's a beautiful shot.
