Description

AlooooooHa! Here's a shot from a couple months back when a big swell was pounding the beaches. This one from a small beach. I'm standing on the shore, (knee deep) and doing my usual "Shoot and Scram" routine. This is one of the rogue waves that came in that day...one of the bigger ones that just came in unannounced. I estimated the face to be 8-10' top to bottom. These are the ones that demand your complete attention...suddenly "knee deep" becomes chest high and out to sea you go. Once you are sucked out your pretty much toast as there really is no other place to get in along this coast except for this beach. That combined with the extreme rip just off the beach makes for treacherous conditions. Fortunately, I pay close attention for these little sneakers and run for higher ground immediately after each shot....makes for an exhausting day~ Being an ex-surfer I've learned how to read waves and know when to run!! Aloha Na'e. What a beauty this is. I love reading your descriptions of the waves. I think I told you once, how when I was about 9 years old, I was in Hawaii. And I was on my wee styrofoam fake surfboard, lol, and thought I'd leave the safety of the pool and try to surf. Big mistake! I still remember to this day, going round and round inside that monster wave, and how I couldn't stand up because it kept sucking me further away from the shore...Scary thing that was. Luckily, I survived,( obviously,lol ), but I have never forgotten it. Ya gotta give props to the sea, that's for sure. :^) Thanks as always for sharing your magnificent work with us. Never imagined all the colors that could be in a single wave but there you have it, almost looks like liquid peacock~ Could waves EVER be boring.... NAWWWWWW!!! =) I don't think surfers ever quit...they just tackle the more sensible waves... and maybe hug the board more... (grin)
