Description

AloooooHa! Here's another shot from a big day on the Puna Coast. The waves this day were pounding one after another making quality shots very difficult. Just way too much going on to feel confident about hanging out on the rocks too long. The rock out croppings in the foreground and background is approximately 20-30 ft. above sea level. As you can see the incoming wave is almost as tall. These are the vantage points that I shoot and run from. This is probably not the smartest thing I've done in my life, but I do calculate the risks before stepping out for the shots. But with mother nature, the "X" factor is always in my mind. There were many rogue waves this day that just came up without me seeing them...But it's all good, no damage to report. Thanks for all comments and concerns on my wave shots, and believe me I don't have a death wish. I just want to show that not all waves are peaceful and calm looking...I have much respect for the power of these waves, and I do watch them quite awhile before venturing out. The only real bummer about these type of shots is the camera cleaning that is needed after getting sprayed for a few hours.... A great weekend to all and get some killer shots! Aloha ya'll!!

You can only run so fast my friend. Hope that X Factor doesn't kick in and your safety is kept preserved. Excellent shot. Aloha

Very true indeed. In Hawaii, you never know where the next wave will come from. Or with what force. But, your shots do kick butt. The hardest part of your work surely is the clean up factor....Aloha and have a great weekend.

My wife thought this was a 3D graphic image... She thought you added too much mist... Then I told her your one of my favorite PHOTOGRAPHERS. LOL Oh, did I mention she is from the Florida region?

Risky stuff, but going by the end results, well worth it. You manage to capture both the power and the beauty.....amazing photography.

What a wonderful shot. I love that huge wave on the right and the spray making the rocks look so misty. The composition of this is fabulous! The gorgeous blue green your waves always have, just takes my breath away. Our waves look nothing like this. Not in size nor color. :^( Just beautiful work, as always, Na'e. LOL at high and dry...I'm hoping to get there tonight, but perhaps not sooooo dry, lol. Aloha and hugz -M :^)
