Description

OK for anyone who has seen a picture of Peggy's cove you are likely wondering where the Lighthouse is...since all you ever see in all the tourist pics and such is the lighthouse. Well it is behind me. I live only a half hours drive from Peggy's Cove and I decided on Canada day to take pictures of every thing but the Lighthouse, it's been over done in my opionion. For those of you who are sure it sounds familiar but not sure why it was the site of the Swiss Air 111 crash seveeral years ago. I packaged up 25 of my favourite shots from my trip and put them in the free section labeled "25 Maritime Backgrounds" it includeds this shot as well as shots of the Memorial Site of the crash. All the backgrounds are 1280x960. Larger coppies of these shots are availble if requested. All shots are by me with little or no postwork (I did do some minor colour corrections on a couple of the pictures). Not too shabby shots either considering I am not the photographer of this team :-)

No doubt about it, I will have to find this place someday. The name is expecially appealing to me for veyr personal reasons... This has great compo and pov and although I am but a dumb American and do not know the history of this famous place, I find you have given it a richness of life that is most inviting.

The Full Name of the place is Peggy's Cove, Saint Margrets Bay. For those of you who are unfamilliar with the tragic Swiss Air 111 flight here is the Wikipedia link for it and for Peggy's Cove http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swissair_Flight_111 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peggys_Cove%2C_Nova_Scotia

Aaaaaaaaaaaaha, so this is why your temperature has not come up, you are at the same latitude as central maine and this area looks a great deal like it. I took a look on Google earth, there is some major forest behind the cove too! What a beautiful area! If I come a knockin one day, do not be surprised. ;-))

Ya Maine and Nova Scotia are much alike except we have much higher tides and more coastal bluffs, otherwise much the same. The Bay of Fundy on our Northern Shore has the highest tides in the world. Growing up that ment little to me since I figured that it was fairly normal for the beach to increase in length by up to a mile. I was surprised when I moved away to find out how much higher our tides are. When the tide is in the water is right up to the cliffs. When the tide is out there is as-much-as a mile walk to get to the water. I figured growing up that in other places it was only half to three quarter miles when the tide was out...live and learn. Here in Halifax it makes a difference of about 30-50 feet of beach when the tide is out. In Margaretville (where my ancestors settled when they came to NS) when the tide is in the water is 50 deep at the same spot where the waterline is when the tide is out. for a better visual that is a difference of 5 stories :-)

Superb looking place, your decision to leave the lighthouse out seems like a good one as this pic is great without it.

"Sky plane went down over Los Gatos canyon", a song of protest over deportation by Joan Baez. Pierre Salinger still believes the Navy did it... and that was for Flight 800. I would say this is a peaceful little fishing vilage but the SSBN came up right under the Japanese fishing trawler so I suspect there is synchronous swimming in high circles.

Always wanted to go there. Beautiful shot of it. It reminds me of this tiny seaside village I visited in Scotland.

Oh, my. A whole mile. I too am not used to that. The picture is great. Too many of us don't see those clear skys. I miss the sky that was in Maine. 364 days of sun. I bet few americans know that since we are so used to an overcast sky. Maine is beautiful, just too far from family. ANNNNNNNNNND a might cooler than here.
