Description

I went out for the day with a friend yesterday and we visited Matlock Bath and went up to the Heights of Abraham in the cable car. Whilst my friend went on a guided tour of the Masson Cave I had a walk about in the grounds and found this little gem. It's called a Wish Tree, this place gets a lot of school parties and the young chidren write out their wishes and tie them to the tree. I read quite a few, some were funny some were sad and a few were quite touching in a way. I have remembered a few so I will tell you what they said. I wish it would stop raining, I wish I had a million pounds, I wish I was beautiful like a princess, I wish I didn't have to sit next to Pricilla, I wish the school holiday wasn't ending yet, I wish I didn't have to eat Broccilli, now a couple that were very touching, I wish I still had my mummy and I wish when I grow up I can be a dry stone waller. Alas the poor little boy/girl had lost their mummy and nothing can be done about it, sad & very touching to read that persons wish. The other one, I presume a little boy, wanting to be a drystone waller, I thought was touching. Drystone walling is a dying art and for a little boy to wish to become one at such a young age, I thought was fantastic. I didn't write one out myself but I said to a mother and daughter at that same tree, you can keep your million pounds all I wish for is my health and happiness, the daughter had wanted the million pounds, the mother agreed with me. So there you have it. The heights of Abraham is located about 400 feet up from the valley floor and was at one time a lead mine. The village is called Matlock Bath, and it is in the county of Derbyshire, UK. Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments that you care to make. I wish that you all have good health and happiness in your lives. May the sun shine down on you where ever you are.

Beautiful shot Jeff, so full of colour, and the mural in the background adds even more to it. It's nice that you've remembered some of the wishes, children can be so touching at times. I think the child that said about mummy, would wish for the same as you.

This is a wonderful idea. I imagine the kids love the opportunity to place a wish on the tree. Wonderful story and excellent capture of this marvelous find.

My neighbor spent a month in England during July and she had the same wish as one of the children, i.e., she wished it would stop raining. She said she a nice time despite the sogginess. Thank you for the wonderful photo of the "wish tree." Some of those wishes were, in my opinion, quite poignant. Well done!

I forgot where it is but in Europe I believe there is a tree that is considered a place for prayers to be answered.people travel from all around to pray at the tree. definitely the children have some wonderful thoughts and some greedy ones.nothing wrong with hoping.excellent symbolism

Hi Jeff felt under the weather today, bit feverish so not venturing out so I'm skipping through your gallery, have you seen the wishing tree in Rochdale shopping centre? not half as colourful as this one but kids had tied notes to it for christmas.
