Description
Thought you might like something different ... this was taken in a Cornish tin mine, looking almost vertically down to the explorer sitting on the rock pillar.
The black and white colouring of the surround rock was very atmospheric, so I couldn't resist a picture.
The camera (a cannon Sureshot) was mounted on a tripod to allow a long exposure, with multiple flashes lighting the walls and a cap lamp dodging some light on the figure below - hence the slight yellowness.
Cheers

this is a great scene, but some thought to the lighting might be given. I'd much rather have seen an expanse of dark face, with the cap lamp in the distance below. Here, the flash brings up the near planes, and compresses and reduces the sense of mystery in the setting.

Impressive and well composed photo. Espcially considering the lengths (and depths) you went through to get it! ;']

Wow, does this bring back memories. I used to work in a gold and silver mine in the mountains, and our stopes looked just like this one. When I wasn't working, I was exploring old mines. Not exactly like spelunking, but pretty close. I really thank you for sharing this. It is a strong photo and particularly pleasing to this displaced mountain guy who misses the caves and mines.
