Description

Aww cute little critter I hear you say. Oh NO!! Not in the UK!! These "Tree Rats" as we call the common grey squirrel, are nothing but vermin and are treated as such. They're bigger and more aggressive than our native Red Squirrel (which has become quite a rarity these days) and they are very destructive to our Forrest's and woodlands. OK so they're cute, now re-load!!!! :) Photographed in the grounds of Oldway Mansion Paignton,Devon England. The former home of Isaac Merrit (of the Singer sewing machine fame)

I must be one of thoe most hated people in the UK lol cause I love these lil guys....but then I love all nature.....even rats and pigeons. I see one regularly on the way to weightwatchers, by a main road lol. First time I saw it I went into the class and said..where do I live? I live in Crosby right? Not Formby? They said why and I was like cause I just seen a squirrel by the main road. Its a beautiful picture hun. superb capture

Ah yes, same thing happened back in Michigan where I am from. The reds are smaller and now seen less often. Some black ones back home too, they seem to be even bigger than the greys.

See, it's not just humans destroying the earth...LOL. It may be destroying, but it is cute doing it. It has that "What... me?..." look on its face.

All of our species of squirrel here in the US are destructive and in some cases have turned mean and bitten children and adults without reason. We have little grey squirrels, brown squirrels, tuffed-earred squirrels, black squirrels, the smallest - the flying squirrel, and the largest of all - the Fox squirrel. They are a food source for many and hunting season thins them out in the wild. They are a complete source of entertainment for many urbanites - some people even put up obstacle courses leading to food dispensers for entertainment, and some are trapped or poisoned as vermin and health risks. I love them all. I'm so sorry your little red ones are losing the battle and I can understand the animosity towards them in the UK. This really is an endearing shot though. Nice pov.

Great capture. In So Calif it's the ground squirrels that do damage and carry diseases. Whenever I'm in the mountains I love to watch them in the morning while drinking my coffee.

The grey squirrels we have outside the shop door at work are quite amusing ^^ My former boss found a baby out there 2 years ago, prolly fell out of one of the palms, she nursed it back to health and released it a few months later. From time to time I find it begging for food just outside the door Oo What the locals here call "Monkey Squirrels" (actually Fox Squirrels) are quite cool, they'll hang out with you on the porch and sometimes eat out of your hands ^^ I see so much nature here and its really depressing to see so many houses and shopping malls go up so fast, its driving all the animals out of their habitats. I missed a great photo opportunity a while back, when my neighbor told me after I got back from vacation that a gopher turtle took a little dip in my frog pond! As far as creatures go, I'm cool with just about anything, including roaches (until they decide to hitch a ride in the jeans you're taking in from the clothesline ><)
