Description

After taking the panorama of the valley that I posted two days ago, I spotted something dark up ahead. It was early enough so there was no traffic, so when I got to where I thought I'd seen it, I pulled over to the left lane and spotted this bison. We watched each other for a few minutes, the he came up the hill and took possession of the road. I took this shot through the windshield; there was no way I was going to get out with him so close. Several times he seemed to lose interest, but when I would start to move forward he would make sure he was blocking the road again, and I wasn't about to challenge him. Of course he eventually did go back to grazing, and we were able to continue our drive, but it was a fun five minutes or so. :-) Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

What a great shot and what a great story. You made me laugh and made me think of my own bison encounter this summer. I was not smart enough to stay in the car and I was having a stare down with a Mom and baby. When she snorted at me I thought my life was over and I jumped in the car!

Great shot and story! I've had a few encounters with these guys myself, and staying in your car was definitely the smartest thing to do!

Geat Bison! I almost wiped out a deer (and my car) that jumped out from the foliage on the Skyline Drive.

Like your Mt. shots I bet there was a heightened awareness with this live animal shot. Good of you to take the time for this. ;-)
