Description

I went to my High School Class reunion and missed seeing a good friend! He was my escort at Homecoming, we were in the Art Club together and even attended St. John's University while I was at St. Bens. I had to find him!!....and I did. His name is Mark Skudlarek and he now has his own pottery business in Cambridge, Wisconsin. We decided on another road trip to stay with him, his wife and their 2 sons. It was a lovely weekend retreat and a calming step back in time. He showed my daughter how to throw a pot (a later upload, I hope) and promised to make a special order basin and pitcher for me. Here is one of many walls of pots he has ready for sale. Behind that is his 4 chamber kiln and all the wood cut and ready to fire it! Have a look at his website. He takes orders online or by phone and is a very talented artist. Mark’s Pottery site... Thanks for the look and paying Mark a visit, too. Jodie

I love this photo. He's a brilliant potter. I live with an artist who makes pottery, and I know how tricky it can be. Great photo of his work.

Wow, your own Harry Potter! Great POV, clarity and lighting effects in this shot, Jodie! Looks like the photo was taken in a cellar.

Beautiful work - and a nice variety (and a great capture to display all this). How nice to be able to make a contact into your past like that. It is always interesting to see how artists were influenced toward the path they are on in the present.

I simply adore original and hand thrown pottery. This all looks very good. The photo is good also with a marvelous pov that accents the length of the shelves.

Very pleasant arrangement with all the earth(l)y colors and wood textures. From the photography perspective you use of diagonal lines are intriguing and flattering for the pottery. :)

I thought for sure I'd commented on this but I guess I didn't. Saw some pottery today so came here to re-view this. (Yes, it was one of the first shots I ever saw of yours...) You got a 'cast' in this shot, a cast of a silvery bluish tint that I often associate with pottery. Maybe it isn't exactly that tint, and maybe it wasn't intended, but it feels so 'there' that it's hard to believe you didn't feel it somewhere inside, if even a little. It's as if the picture were seen through the gaze of a potter. And of course the lineup of pots/jars/etc makes a beautiful visual music, as do the pots against the beautiful raw wood (and grass below). Fine shadow too. A reflective shot that makes these feel like an intimate shot, like it's private (which feels good, not bad). I liked this the first time I saw it, and always wanted to comment & fav it. So I'll finally do it now. The potter's studio I saw yesterday wasn't as beautiful as this, but I thought of this image as soon as I saw it...Very sensitive work.
