Description
Well now this here is a real pretty from Nature that most never get to see.
For those of you that have looked at some of my pics, a lot of my subjects come to me via my ”Hawk-Eyed” daughter and this one is no exception.
She observed this one-inch long chrysalis attached to the inside bucket of our John Deer tractor.
I was getting ready to move some firewood with the tractor and when I turned the bucket right side up (I keep the bucket tilted down so rain and mow-skitters don’t collect in it). Any way as soon as I turned the bucket up she spotted not one, but 4 four of these beautiful chrysalis. I believe the butterfly that will hatch out next Spring 2008 will be the painted lady (I need to research a bit more). We carefully dislodged them with a butter knife from where they were attached in the tractor bucket and tied a bit of thread to the tops so that we can hang them in a safer place. My daughter wants to hang them in her out door playhouse, which is well protected from the rain but still out in the elements, which they need.
I can’t tell you how utterly amazed I am that this tiny little chrysalis will go through who knows how many extreme NJ temperature cycles during the 6 months and survive. It is a real big WOW factor in my book.
As Always thanks for looking and any new folks out there please enjoy some of my earlier pics.
And please leave comments, good, bad or so-so. All of you are helping me to take better pics and continue to find & see the beauty around me.

Great photo. If these arent erm.."hatching" till next year, have you considered doing a metamorphis series of them. Setting the camera in the same spot/position every day/week/month till it pops?
