Description

This was taken at Midway Geyser Basin. I think I'll be posting a few more from here and then be done with Yellowstone. I got some interesting shots of colorful hot springs and reflections. We'll see what happens. Anyway, this is where the basin drains into the cool river, and I liked the contrast. I'll be surprised if anyone thinks this is "pretty," but I hope you find it interesting. I'm slowly getting boxes unpacked and catching up with comments. I'm behind only about 150 now LOL.

Yes, pretty is not the word for it, but beautiful works! It's a stark, perhaps even harsh beauty. The mineral colors are fascinating and the steam rises softens an otherwise stern image.

I will assume the yellow is sulfur? In any case, I won't call it beautiful but it has a very strong pull to it. I find the shine of the condensation on the rock very pleasant and the steam rising gives me a sense of water condition here. Excellent.

"Stubborn beauty." (A lyric from one of my favorite groups.) Seems appropriate. This is harsh and bare, and certainly not what you and I are used to seeing as beauty, but it does have a certain appeal. Great shot - thanks for taking me there with your camer!

Really neat, I'll bet all the hot springs were a sight to see!! Any odor...sulfurous or otherwise? Photos I have seen are so colorful, orange, red and yellow mineral deposits.

I thought we saw most of Yellowstone in our three days there but you keep showing me places we didn't visit. I love the gold color in this and that hot water meeting the cold.
