Description
Two years ago, I spent a month traveling through Thailand and Burma (Myanmar)...and with the situation in Myanmar as it is now, thought I would post a few photos of Burma as it was then.
This is a shot from the Thai side...we are just preparing to walk over the bridge into Burma. The bridge was heavily guarded, even then. I was uncomfortable with the fact that we had to leave our passports with the guards...but it was either that or no entrance.
I was stunned, when in walking across the bridge on the Burma side... a large number of guards were sitting in a room(in the buiding built over the bridge) smoking pot. The air was heavy with the odor...and the guards watched us laughing all the while.
The atmosphere on the Burma side was so different from that of Thailand...it was almost palpable.
