Description

I once commented that Dystopia is a town that looks much better at night than in the day. An unfair statement really because all cities are a reflection of those who inhabit it. Well, for better or worse, Dystopia will likely be my rendering home. Partially because I'm too cheap to buy a nicer place. And partially because if we want a better city then, by golly Buster, we should make the effort to invest in the ones we have. And not abandon them when the up keep becomes too taxing. To that end I've introduced Dystopia's newest public works project - light rail. Maybe this will shake up this naked city a bit. This latest offing didn't turn out quite the way I wanted. But I was really amazed when I came across this highly detailed TTC streetcar prop on the internet. I just had to make use us it. My thanks to Matt Harter at http://www.3dtransit.com/ for suppling the CLRV streetcar 3D Studio model. Superb work. I created the 604 UNION STATION destination sign as a homage to TTC's former Harbourfront LRT. When Toronto built the short (Union Station to Spadina Ave.) Harbourfront LRT back in the late '80's, the TTC tried to sell it as a type rapid transit. As a result the line's route was numbered 604 and given an official colour - orange. All other TTC streetcar lines have route numbers in the 500's, TTC subway routes and other rapid transit have a colour and route numbers in the 600's - though never displayed except on the Harbourfront line. Harbourfront was a showcase for the future of surface rail transit in Toronto - rapid transit. The line was on its own private right-of-way after all and the fact that it utilized streetcars just made the project cost effective. However, this type of designation became a public relations flop and the TTC eventually abandoned the new numbering standard for surface rail. The Harbourfront LRT would be later merged with the resurrected Spadina streetcar line (Route 510) in the late '90's. Then, a few years later, the Harbourfront tracks would be extended to connect with the CNE fair grounds. At this time a new streetcar line also called Harbourfront was established with the route number 509. It now runs from Union Station to the Exhibition. Hope you enjoy! As always, most honourable mentions go to the artists how provided the free components of this rendering: Matt Harter at http://www.3dtransit.com/ for the TTC CLRV streetcar. DarkStarRising for the Bee character. Moebius87 for the Dystopia City model. JTrout for the Road Construction Kit. Adorana for Bee's black Leolin hair. Notes: TTC: Toronto Transit Commission CLRV: Canadian Light Rail Vehicle CNE: Canadian National Exhibition

Thanks for the download tip. I just downloaded this beauty myself ... not sure how I'll use it yet; it's a sweet model. As a Torontonian, I appreciate the heads up. Love how you included a driver in there. Wonderful resource at that link!

That truly is a realistic model of the streetcar. I also thought it was a photo until I got to the poser figure. Excellent.

!!! I had no idea there was a TTC streetcar prop out there! Judging by your image notes, a proponent of the new taxes proposed by the mayor are ye?

I agree with you, we should invest in what we got and not let it go to rack and ruin. Unfortunately the powers that be think otherwise. Excellent scene, the car does look very real. Well done!
