Description

The Town Hall of Funchal.(Right of Picture) Built in 1758 and remodelled in 1940 under projects of the Architects Raul Lino and Carlos Ramos, belonged to the ancient family Abuquerque Carvalhal Esmeraldo. The building has a square plan and a small interior gardened courtyard. The basalt stone doorway with the coat-of-arms of Funchal on the top is in the centre of the main facade. The southern facade has a three-floor tower facing the sea, and the one that faces the mountains(north facade)has a1944 bass-relief of Santiago Menor, patron saint of Funchal, by the sculptor, Antonio Duarte. The fountain in the interior courtyard, dates from 1880, and came from the old Fish Market. The interior walls are lined with revivalists blue and white glassed tiles, from Battistini Maria de Portugal Factory. The Town Hall has an important spoil from 500 years of existance. Portraits of the Kings of Portugal from 18th 19th and 20th centuries, paintings and lithography of the city, from the same period of time are displayed in the Noble Sallon and the Mayors Offices. Thanks for all the latest comments, I wish you all well. Alan.

I like the POV on this. I accentuates the perspective lines towards the vanishing point.

In places like this it's better to wait till morning when everyone is sleeping. People just ruin the architecture like noise.

That's an amazing effect and you've squeezed out the most of it. I think only an aerial shot could do better. Great job, and very interesting to see this.
