Description

Being busy with other things, I recently saw Lightwork's image of this and thought, "I can do that", and spent a few days meshing-up this scene. I always liked it anyway, so it was fun to build. Done in Lightwave 9.3 and rendered in F-prime 3.01. For those who don't recognize it, it's from Stanley Kubrick's 2001:a space odyssee.

Awesome sci-fi scene... artificial gravity by the rotation... I hope to see in my life a space station like this really built... (before the 2050...) Congratulations!

Very nice! Great angle on the station, and the planet's atmosphere is well done.

Yes, I love this scene, too! Though not sure if these construction rods should get rusty in the Space;) Great work. I saw the film in a B&W TV set, so it was madly boring:P Then I watched it in much more appropriate conditions and fell in love to it. Pity they added that sd and ne sequel. tupi and aiv;)

Thank you all for your kind comments. Silgrin, I have to say this. The construction parts are not rusty, just copper clad metal frames that will be imbedded and covered up later with paneling. It amused me to see McCall's painting of the 'primered' metal parts, since there is no oxygen in space, nothing could rust (rust being an oxydation process). I picked the texture (no doubt, as did McCall) to make it visually a little more interesting. Of course, for a more boring image, I could just have left the second ring (mirror of the first one) intact (yawn).
