Description

Well...ok, so they're on a trailer...it's a fun title anyway. :D LOL Now then...let's see if I can find the pictures I took of the signs describing these so I can tell you what they are... Ah, ok. So...in the foreground we've got the GBU-31 JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) and in the background we have the CBU-103 Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser. The CBU has inertial guidance and mini wings that pop out to steer the munition to it's target point from release while accounting for wind, etc. The JDAM does essentially the same thing, but is used to convert basic gravity free fall bombs to smarter ones. I've got the photos of their descriptive signs as I mentioned if anybody is interested...not sure I'll bother to upload them separately. This is probably the last of the military shots from our trip to Beale AFB a week and a half ago...do have some shots of some of the model airplanes they were flying, so I'll probably upload some of those the rest of this week unless I get other renders done. Thanks for looking and commenting if you do...it's always appreciated even if I fail to always reciprocate. :) John

I like the JDAM's strap-on "wings" . . . they've changed a bit over the years.

Excuse me, is it the red wire or the blue wire again I am suppose to cut? Oh never mind, I'll just cut the red one and see what happens!

Very sharp and informative shot John- this has been a great series, it is cool to share things like this that many may not have the opportunity to visit. I learned a lot, I am sure many others have gained some insight about these marvels of technology. The KC-135 was of particular interest- a flying tanker is such an abstract concept to those of us who drive on the ground! :)
