Description

Thanks to Richard, I now know this is an Assassin Bug. After reading some information on them I am glad I am not an ant...LOL. Here is a little information I found as to the origin of it's name: Assassin bugs get their name because of the speed that they have to grab and poison their prey. They are carnivorous, or meat eaters, and use their powerful, jack-knife forelegs to grab their prey. They have sticky pads on these front legs, made up of thousands of tiny hairs, that stick to their victims and keep them from getting away. Some assassin bugs actively hunt their prey, while others patiently wait until their prey comes close enough to grab. If you would like more information on this bug, go here: http://www.ivyhall.district96.k12.il.us/4th/kkhp/1insects/assassin.html I took a bunch of photos of these assassin bugs, but I chose 2 to share. I chose them because it was a good shot of the bug and the foilage! I Love the green colors! Thank you for commenting and viewing and your information! Have a Beautiful Day! ~HUGS~ P.S. I was so intent on focusing on the bug when taking this photo, I didn't see that other 'thing' on the leave to his left. I don't know what it is... Is it anything? By the way, try full size.... :0)

Lovely shot. Someone I know was bitten by an assasin bug and it was a very bad experience. This person rarely feels pain and only extreme pain when they do but the bite was so painful, and the arm swelled so much, it looked much like a broken bone. Good shot but be careful.

It a great shot, but it sounds a nasty little critter... Don't think we have them in UK... Well, I hope not. Di.

I like this one better than the first, a much clearer view. Don't know what that is too the left but whatever it is it looks dead. The lush greenery is a big change from the boot hill series. Boot Hill= people shot dead, now you are shooting bugs I think a slight difference though. Keep up the good work. Bravo!!!!!

When I first read your comments about this bug I so wanted them to come and get into my biteing ants, but then when I read what the symptoms are when they get a person, I think I'll pass and you can keep them all to yourself, great capture...Lol...Kym

I like the idea of a bug that eats other bugs. Send it to Texas, he has a lot of work to do here!...lol... Todd

An excellent capture of the bug, which vaguely resembles a praying mantis, another carnivorous and deadly little critter. I really like the clarity, colors, textures and lighting effects of the healthy green leaves.

Assassin bugs...ain't nature grand!? This is a gorgeous capture, beautifully presented, and I love the shadow of the not yet opened blossom as well...it looks like either a claw, or a modern interpretation of the famous triffids of B-movie lore. Great work, fantastic vividness.
