Description

Can you believe I took this shot today. The tortoiseshell butterfly is sitting on a scabius flower in Thomme's garden! Thomme is on holiday.. so I snook in his garden!! I am today removing ratings from my work. I am very disappointed with some RR members who say very sweet words then drop my ratings drastically!!!. I have always given my all to my gallery... I will continue to do so. Have a beautiful eventime. Hugs. Diane.

Here's sunshine at you sweetheart #;0) Wonderful butterfly Diane, the colours are so vibrant. The little blue dots on the wings match the scabius, beautiful clarity and detail. Never mind the ratings, I was only going to give you ten anyhow. Sunshine hugs for you. Bravo!!!!! 5+5=10 xxxxx

I am in total agreement about the fantastic detail here and the marvelous colors. It's a really peachy shot all around. You are so lucky to have such startlingly colorful and interesting butterflies. I don't have anything so beautiful to photograph. :-( As for the ratings (stand back, I feel a diatribe coming on...),I used to complain about the same thing as you - comments were so flattering and there was no hint that anyone found anything to improve on in my shots, but the ratings were lower than I expected. Oh, I really got my feelings hurt and I really felt people were evil and two-faced... but after I pulled myself together, it shook out this way: People really like each other here, with a few exceptions. And, as is normal human behavior, we do not want to hurt someone we like. We also have a bit of a competition going whether we acknowledge it or not, and we want to advance our cause and promote higher ratings for ourselves. So, number one is we tell our friends how wonderful their work is because we don't want to hurt their feelings, and number two is we say how fantastic a shot is because we are identified (see the avatar by our comments???)with our comment and we hope the artist will reciprocate the gesture boosting our own numbers and, frankly, upsetting someone with an honest opinion sometimes won't get them to stop in at your gallery and say something nice about you. But in my opinion, the ratings probably are the more honest gauge of our work because you can make an honest rating without being identified with it (good or bad)and, therefore, if you aren't named you aren't the one who hurts anyone nor do you cause hard feelings that might lessen your own feedback in the future. Maybe its hard for us to realize that the photo we thought was better than anyone else's, along with the glowing comments we get on those 2 or 3 pages that pump up our ego, are just pap because the ratings show it was only an average shot and nothing special. But for me, at least, I'd rather know another's true feelings than be the fool and think better of my work than it is just because my friends don't want to hurt my feelings or I'm just a part of their popularity plan. I could be all katty-wampus in my thinking but its what I think happens and I don't get upset any more. I just take it and try to do better. :-) (And it seems to be working because I generally don't get anything less than 4.5 stars any more.) Ok, I'm jumping off my soap box now and going to find a hole to hide in while everyone gets over my big mouth... LOL
