Description

Can you believe I took this shot today. The tortoiseshell butterfly is sitting on a scabius flower in Thomme's garden! Thomme is on holiday.. so I snook in his garden!! I am today removing ratings from my work. I am very disappointed with some RR members who say very sweet words then drop my ratings drastically!!!. I have always given my all to my gallery... I will continue to do so. Have a beautiful eventime. Hugs. Diane.

A super shot Diane with lots of great detail. I love butterflies as I think they always make such a splash of colour. I don't take much notice of the ratings as I can't see much point to them its the comments I love.

I decided not to allow rating some months ago for the same reason...enthusiastic comments and low ratings...why??I will never get to understand, but of one thing you can be sure:your ART is outstanding and full of life and poetry and before everyone's eyes the beauty you always capture, magical macro my dear friend, awesome colors both in the butterfly and the flower,fantastic!!:-)

I can imagine your diligence and fascination on taking this superb and amazing shot, dear Diane, just like the little girl that's within you , and the result is first-class photography.I wish we had such beautiful butterflies as this one over here, they surely live somewhere far from city buses and exhaust fumes... Congratulations, and bisous, Diane :-)

Hmmmph! I tried SO many times to get a good shot of those little buggers (butterflies in general) and the dang things would up and move off JUST as I got focused. What do they think I am, paparazzi? How did you get yours to sit for you? You bribed it, didn't you, with honey or nectar or something. That's not playing fair you know! Not only is this a fantastic macro, but the butterfly itself is outright Gorgeous!! Sigh. I'll get one yet before I die, LOL!

Someone forgot to tell the butterfly what time of year it is. :) He's probably stocking up on food for his journey to warmer places but glad he stopped by your place long enough for you to grab him.

An absolutely wonderful shot. One of the best - if not the best - butterfly photo I've seen around here. I want to do something like this when I grow up (or maybe when my camera grows up). :D As for the comments: I can only judge by the Poser images I posted, as I noticed the "rating fluctuation" there a lot more than with my photos. I was rather dumbfounded by it myself, until I started to ask the people who posted comments what rating they gave and why they did it. That actually worked quite well, as most people were honest and forthcoming with their replies. What I learned is that some people - at least in the Poser community - seem to judge images by two criteria: technical aspects and personal taste (call it artistic quality if you like, but I wouldn't, as I find "art" very difficult to define and a rather personal concept). Usually a comment reflects the better reception on one of those two lines, while the rating may be more indicative of the other aspect, or at least be influenced by it. For reasons others have already mentioned ("big happy family", etc.) some people seem unable or unwilling to express their opinion in public beyond the aspects they consider best about an image, but some things they don't mention will still influence the rating they give. One other interesting reply I got to my inquiries about the comments/ratings was along the lines of "yes, I think your render is superb, but I want to reserve the 5-star rating for the absolutely outstanding images that can't be improved in any way". While I wish the person in question had said so much in his posted comment it is something I can relate to. Perhaps it might be worth enabling comments again when you have some time to closely follow the comments and ratings that come with them, and then ask around why people rated your images which way? You might be surprised by some of the replies you get.
