Description

Last night I was on my regular walk around the park, harassing the ducks with my camera. I noticed the creek below the spillway was actually making gurgling noises, probably due to the fact we received 5" of rain the night before. So I did a little exploring and found several little pools along the stream where inhabited with creatures who had gotten washed over the spillway. This is the overflow creek and is usually dry 95% of the time. If you look at the expanded version of the picture you will see a small catfish and some sort of minnow. The minnow is really hard to see as he is almost water colored. The crayfish will just crawl back up stream and the fish will become heron food before the water dries up, probably by tomorrow afternoon. Oh and we called crayfish, ..crawdads... growing up here in Texas ..lol... We also call them, ..mud bugs... and supper ...lol... Remember we border Louisiana and they call every creature supper ...lol... I had a problem getting enough light down where the subjects where, so I did some post work. It is dark, but I think it is kind of cool. I took the picture with the clearest focus and here is what I did: cropped, resized, slightly increased contrast, slightly increased saturation, increased brightness, all in an effort to get what would have probably been there if I could have gotten enough light, in the first place. Let me know what I could have done better and how. All comments are welcome. Thank y'all, Todd

Hi there....it's maybe my eyes, but I'm having a little difficulty here.....I think the 'thing' in the middle is the crawfish, but the indistinct edges make me doubt. Sorry!

How fascinating Todd, I am learning so much on this RR. The shot is very colourful, and I enjoyed zooming in to look in awe. Great!!

Very cool - looks great to me! You don't have any glare on the water, and that can be a big problem. You did a great job!

Beautiful capture. Those catfish are awful small. A couple more pounds on them and they'd make a good meal. Nice work.

The crawdads would make good bait for some larger size catfish..used to run trot lines and they made for a good catch..nice work with this..

I had to come back and change my comments since I just viewed the corrected image. This really is a great shot and to think it started with that dark one... wonderful post work! Say... a dip net and about 3 dozen of those mud bugs, toss in some corn and cajun crab boil and you'd have a really good meal!
