Description

The city where I live, (incorporated long before it was necessary to have a population of 10,000 to be a city!) is also known as the 'City of Totems'. Our native culture here is both rich and ancient. These two totems show, from the left; An Owl, above a Bear, holding a Human, and A Frog above KWA GULUTH Bear holding KWA GULUTH Seal. I'm sorry I don't have the exact translation of KWA GULUTH for you! This lovely Cowichan Valley is home to the native Cowichan people. (Ko'whut'zun) Thank you for visiting and for any comments. Sorry I have been a little distracted from this series by my amateur real estate work, but with two such nice people to provide for as PJ and goodoleboy.....well, I'm sure you understand! 2007.10.21 Some of you kind folks seem to like totems quite a lot, and I can recommend that you type City of Totems into your browser......I think you'll find many of them there, all taken here, in the Cowichan Valley! Enjoy, and thanks for your kind comments.

I have never seen anything like this and they are amazing. It sort of seems really strange to me to see these totems, and yet behind them modern day life - It is a great shot of clarity and the colours are amazing. Thanks for sharing with us !! xx

Geez, Tara always takes the words right out of my mouth!! I also love totems, tikis, those powerful works that so define a culture. What I particularly love about this shot is the contrast between the totems and the parked cars, how they've come to co exist. There's a similar scene in a town near here, a huge old totem in a strip mall. But at least it's there for people to see!! Great shot!!

A wonderful shot of these powerful Totem poles, I do hope you have a few more to show us, I too like the colour of these. It is a great capture by you although the sky appears to be burnt out a bit, the totems make up for that. Bravo!!!!!

Again, thanks for finding me that perfect houseboat, and having Harry for a neighbor is fantastic. We can sit around and grouse at each other when we aren't discussing 1940s singers and big bands. :-) This is a wonderful shot. I have a totem pole in my back yard. A gift from my son. Maybe one day I'll post it.

fantastic colour to these Totems, you make it sound a great place to live and I'm sure it is. Interesting piece of information too. Thanks for sharing. My partner and myself are planning to visit Canada in a couple of years time to see Niagra falls.
