Description

Captured, very early in the morning, I know not when, within walking distance of my residence. Identification of this species would be deeply appreciated. And, let's all hope that Kimariehere remains safe and sound during the horrific firestorms ravaging Southern California. The Canyon Country fire is within close viewing distance of her local area, which is being buffeted by terrible Santa Ana winds. Ironically, there is absolutely no wind down south of her where I live. Have a nice day.

When I was much younger I used to work at a flower park. The names of flowers came easily and that included the Latin name, too! Now I can only guess at these brilliant gems as being Calendula. Of course, that is my Minnesotan expertise...and memory, talking. Wonderful and cheery image, Harry. *****

Thank you Jodie! You nailed it! Calendula officinalis is the name...also known as English or Pot marigold.

I love these bright cheery flowers and always grow them each year. I collect the seeds from them and love sowing them in the early spring. This is a wonderful capture Harry, of a flower dear to my heart. Excellent shot!!! I also wish Kimarie well and hope that soon the fires will be under control. She says that the brave firefighters have managed to control about 10% of the fires so far!!

Gorgeous blossoms, my dear! I love calendula, but have a shade garden, and it doesn't grow well here. Thank you for sharing these sunny beauties! I shall enjoy them vicariously through your stunning photography.
