Description

Words and their origins fascinate me. They always have. I have long been so pleased to see Sharky's pleasant salutation to us all and I have now found out the complete meaning of 'Aloha'. In this wonderful word, each letter has its own thought. The first is AKAHAI, to be kind. The secondis LOKAHI, to be inclusive. The third is OLU'OLU, to be agreeable. HA'AHA'A is the fourth, to be humble. AHONUI is the last and means patience. These are the characteristics of the Hawaiian people. By itself, ALO is space and breath is HA. So when you say ALOHA you say come, share my space, share my breath. That's ALOHA. Thankyou, Sharky.

Other than Aloha, the only words I know in Hawaiian are, Book 'em, Dano. Excellent POV, colors, clarity, textures and soft lighting effects in this lovely rose!

The round ball that is the unopened center is wonderful. It gives it a very tender touch. BTW, I have heard that Aloha is both a coming and going word. A way to say welcome and a way to say come back (good-bye). But, that may not be so. I got that from a lady at work who has been studying Hawaiian history and dance.

I think you can give the same greeting/blessing, both on arrival and on departure. Your friend is correct, I'm sure............the difference is perhaps that it means a lot more then "Hello" or "Goodbye". Perhaps we'd better ask Sharky!
