Description

And now, after too long a respite from these gorgeous creatures, I return to those heady days of last spring, when I posted several shots of the colorful butterflies, in relative repose, enjoying the fruits of their nectar gathering labor. Captured 5/3/07, in the Pavilion of Wings, located on the lovely premises of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, which, incidentally, is adjacent to the University of Southern California and the LA Coliseum. This particular variety sits upon a bouquet of Lantana, sucking up every available drop of sweet liquid from the beautiful flowers. Finally, have a frenetically fun filled Friday.

I bet you were in your element during the 60s. The decade of bright, bold colors... Peter Max, Laugh-in... This is one bright butterfly and the leaves and flower are a perfect complement to it with vibrant colors of their own. I really like this pov that shows off, to the best advantage, those long, slender fore-wings. What a wonderful depiction of quietude that is definitely a stellar shot and does not need anyone to re-pose it, relative or not. Its great like this.:-)

Good one! I think I saw one of these beauties in my back yard in the '70s in the Bay Area. Tried to take a picture, but it flew away before I could get close. I haven't seen one since. Fairly unusual.
