Description

While hiking today we came across a deer feeding. That's not unusual except that I managed to sneak up closer than ever before. I don't know if it heard, saw, or smelled me but it thought something was up and I froze. I don't believe it was afraid while I remained motionless, still it realized that all was not right and stood bolt upright with one foreleg up off the ground, absolutely still and alert; focused. Then it switched feet, almost mechanically, almost aggressively. It was staring right at me and I remained frozen except for the finger on the shutter button. It switched feet once or twice more, actually coming slightly closer to me, but then it decided that there was a real threat and turn and bounded off into the brush. What a Rush! I got so excited afterward that I scared off another deer hiding nearby in the brush. Lol! This is the first step of its "dance". I will post the other three that I caught in days to come. Please view it full size - the shots aren't perfect (I had little opportunity to adjust the camera) but they came out far better than I imagined they would. Thanks for looking at this beautiful creature! Ken

Maybe they are getting use to seeing us there. I hope they don't lose their wildness.... it keeps them alive. Wonderful picture bunny.

Very cool. I know what you felt. I had a deer trail through my property and twice a day I'd see them walk past me - only 10 feet from me - and as long as I was still, they continued walking with no concern. This is a gorgeous deer...small head, big body. Well fed it seems. Must be a buck nearby I would think. If you came across more than one doe, a buck will be watching them. :-)
