Description
I was toying with the idea of sepia with this but then I would lose all the colours of the liquids in the jars and the colours of the jars themselves. So I left it as it was.
Bates & Hunt Chemist
A chemist and druggist would have provided many services to a small industrial town:- medicine dispensed from the back counter, herbal remedies, ready made patent medicines and toiletries from the front counter. Those who could not afford the doctors fee would come here for advice and medicines as well as to see the visiting dentist and optician. The chemist may well have extracted teeth himself. Home nursing and veterinary items are also displayed along with household goods.
The building is a reconstuction, the name taken from a local chemist, the fittings from a shop in Bournmouth and the jars and artifacts from many sources.
Thanks for stoping for a look and for any comments you care to make, I appreciate each and every one.
May the sun shine down on you, where ever you are.

Glad you posted this one Jeff. Love these colours. further on in our visit to Blists Hill the candlemaker told us an extra story about the Chemists. An elderly lady visited here, and as a girl she lived in Bournmouth, and as she entered the doorway she was overcome with emotion, it was set out the same as when she was a girl. Spooky!

Just gorgeous! The colors are really the star here and although sepia would have been great for the rest, those bottles of color really needed to stay. Wonderful shot!

Wonderful shot! Glad you left the color in!

good idea to keep it this way, the beautiful woodwork would have lost it's character when turned sepia.

Love all the colours in this photo, I think sepia would not have done it justice at all. Wonderful shot! We had a chemist that looked like this in Middleton Junction when I was a child in the late 50s! Oh WOW!! now I feel old!!! >smile< Hugs
