Description
This is the view from the top looking down into the pit. Appartently it continues down a few more 1000 feet below the water too. When this Uranium mine was closed about 1972 they dumped all the heavy equipment into the bottom of this pit and nature took its course. The water is from rain and is the prettiest blue I have ever seen. On the right, you can see my bush I posted in my shot Survival....Tomorrow I will show you another shot that will give you some perspective on the size on the place.

Excelent pov. Like a layered pattern created a way it was mined long time ago. Amazing colors, wish I would see more of the water.

Very cool shot Sue and we both posted at 1:32! The water looks like Cobalt blue mirror.

I have some serious catching up to do on your gallery Sue, why have I been missing your uploads? I don't know but I've just given myself a serious slapping for missing all these goodies. I will catch up! Love this sort of thing, I don't know whats gone before so bea with me, I take it this is some abandoned open cast mine, a job I nearly took in 1971. I worked on the motorways at the time driving the big heavy machinery and when the motorway opened I was offered a job in Leeds doing open cast coal mining, on reflection I wish I'd taken it. Great shot here showing the terraces, I wish you had somebody stood on one of them to give scale to this shot. If it is what I think then those terraces would have to be approx 90feet wide so that two vehicles could pass with plenty of space between them, the trucks that I drove were approx 25/30 feet wide. I look forward to tomorrow's upload, you could have done with an helicopter for the best shot. I think this shot is incredible, nothing like an hole in the ground to get me excited.lol Bravo!!!!!

This is such a great place - I probably would have spent a long time there, wandering around, enjoying the colors and shapes, imagining what it was like before. The colors of the earth and the horizontal roadways make for an awesome photograph! I can hardly wait until tomorrow!

I have always been greatly angered by open pit or quarry-type mining. It sure screws up the land. This may have a pretty little lake but at the bottom is someone's junk and who knows what sort of lasting damage has been done. Really good shot of this. And it is very interesting. Your pov is great.

wonderfully layered painted effect caused over time facinating colors beautifully captured!!!...

Superb capture of a wonderful find. Almost as though there are stairs, the patterned wall reminds that no matter how deep the hole, there is always a way to ascend it. Nature has an amazing ability to make beauty out of our ruins. Can’t wait for the next upload in this series.

strange they did not salvage the equipment, but maybe then scrap steel did not have a high price.China and Japan buys so much scrap from the USA.it is a beautiful place and capture

Strip mining is really scarring and ruining the land. Even though this is a beautiful shot, it still shows the disregard we have for our land. Some states now make the strip mining companies "restore" the land by planting trees and such. Several such places that have been reclaimed have been opened up to the public for ATV use. The guys (my hubby, nephews, and friends) have been going down to Virginia to ride in one of those areas. There are miles and miles of trails, marked accorting to difficulty.
