Description
Captured 5/3/07, in the Pavilion of Wings, located on the lovely premises of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, which, incidentally, is adjacent to the University of Southern California and the LA Coliseum.
I have no idea as to the variety of butterfly this represents (kinda looks like a moth, and if you stretch your imagination a bit, even a stingray or a British Avro Vulcan B.Mk2 bomber) but found the particular position it had taken for the photo most fortuitous and intriguing, with the image of its body and the pavilion metal or plastic mesh softly displayed through the translucent wings.
Have a fantastic Friday!

One would question it if done by Bryce or Carrara. Yet, there it is on camera in real life. That is what I like about modelling. Sometimes secrets are not errors.

A Lunar Moth. The largest moth I know of and I haven't seen one since I was a kid back in the dinosaur age... :-) This is a beautiful shot. Normally the criss-cross would bother me but in this it really gives the shot something extra. Gorgeous capture of the beauty.

Am I glad I view all of these amazing galleries, because I would never have seen such a spectacular Moth as this if I hadn't. It really does show us the fine delicate wings so well, you were there at the right time to capture the moment my friend. Simply awesome capture and shot!!!!!!!!!!!

Most fascinating shot Harry! The mess shadowed on a moth's wings looks like part of the wing pattern. Love the backlit option very fotunate shot. How big is this beauty?

Oh yes, you're right about the light shining through it's wings. Very cool. My mom taught me long ago about the Luna Moth. Great catch, Harry.

I agree with Mrs L, I call these Lunar Moths also. Have had quite a few land near or on my front door on summer nights. Otherworldly creatures they are... Great capture, I also like the transparency brought out by the mesh.
